National Standards referred to throughout Seela Science® reflect the National Science
Education Standards1. More specifically, they’re based on the K - 4th Science
Content Standards (p.121 - 141) and the 5th - 8th Science Content Standards (p.
143 - 171).
Our references use the NSES alphabetic format, plus a numeric code to indicate bulleted
sub-topics. For example, C1 in a third grade lesson would indicate Content Standard
C and sub-topic 1. (This standard is outlined on page 127 of the Standards, and
a detailed description can be found on page 129. )
Please note that Primary and Intermediate standards are different. A C1 reference
for a third grade lesson, for example, would be found on page 129 (“characteristics
of organisms”). By contrast, a C1 reference for a seventh grade lesson would be
found on page 156 (“structure and function in living systems”).
While the book is an essential reference for your school’s curriculum library, you
can also view the Standards online. (Use the links at the left.)
