WHISTLE SNAKES
National Standard: B3
“...Sound is produced by vibrating ... The pitch of the sound can be varied by changing the rate of vibration ...” 1
Suggested Use
Vibration produces sound. Blow through the snake, or spin it around rapidly. The air moving through the snake vibrates, producing a whistling noise. Discuss how various musical instruments (flutes, tubas, banjos, etc.) use vibration to create sound. Related concepts: wavelength, pitch, frequency, etc.
